Why Getting a Dental Checkup is so Important?

We all know it is important to go see the dentist to take care of our oral health, but how often should we go? Well, most dentists advise patients to visit every six months for a checkup. However, if your oral health is having specific issues, it may be wise to visit even more often. You don’t want to miss going to the dentist and here are a few reasons why.

Why Getting a Dental Checkup is so Important?

  • Keeping Your Teeth Clean. If you are consistent at brushing and flossing your teeth, that is great. However, brushing and flossing are not enough to keep your mouth completely clean. Over time, plaque will still build up, turn into tartar, and can eventually become cavities. Dentists have the special tools needed to get rid of plaque and tartar buildup before it reaches the point of becoming a cavity. Going into the dentist for cleanings is just as important as major dental work.
  • Oral Disease Exams. Another reason dental checkups are important is because dentists perform oral exams to see if you are developing any oral diseases. They also do a visual exam/screening for oral cancer. Dentists do these exams so that they can catch any oral diseases in their early stages. This is a good reason to not miss your regular dental checkup.
  • Preventative Care. A dental checkup allows dentists to do preventative care on your teeth in order to avoid bigger problems down the road. Years ago, people would go see the dentist to fix problems that had already occurred, but dentists now have a lot more knowledge on the importance of tooth maintenance.

As you can see, you should never miss your dental checkups. If you are needing to schedule a dental checkup, our team at the office of Kenneth R. Russell DDS would be happy to get you on the schedule. Call us today to book an appointment.
